My name is Sophie Martyn; I am from Plymouth, Devon. I have studied photography for the past 7 years, 3 of those specialising in commercial photography, where I grew my love for advertising photography. I am a product photographer with a strong interest in social media marketing. As a product photographer, I am particularly interested in social media marketing. I aim to create authentic visuals that do not imply any potentially harmful side effects to the audience. I am committed to capturing images of clean and ethically produced products, supporting brands prioritising ethical practices in their creation processes. Upholding ethical standards as a photographer is of utmost importance to me, especially given the numerous challenges faced in the industry. It is vital that my work remains truthful and does not mislead or cause harm to my viewers.
I enjoy capturing striking, creative images that draw attention to various products. This year, my primary focus has been identifying skincare products favoured by Gen Z consumers and developing new imagery for those brands. I acknowledge that Gen Z is highly skilled at navigating social media, and I always remember this when producing content, particularly for Instagram. Staying informed about current trends and popular brands is crucial to my approach. I actively seek feedback from my viewers and peers from the Gen Z demographic to ensure my work remains relevant and aligned with their preferences. This perspective shapes my creative process, offering valuable insights that enhance my work and produce images that resonate with my target audience.
Recently, my projects have encompassed advertising photography for perfumes, aftershaves, hair care products, and, most recently, skincare items. I have a deep interest in photography’s advertising and marketing elements, which fuels my motivation to create clean, captivating product images. I aim to develop innovative marketing campaigns for the brands I work with. I have explored various lighting styles through my recent work, which will contribute to my ongoing improvement. I aspire to create advertising images that effectively communicate a brand’s values to consumers rather than merely producing typical advertisements that often go unnoticed by my target audience. For this project, I intend to concentrate more on the marketing aspect of photography, as I am seeking a career in digital and social media marketing, and this focus will allow me to engage more deeply with the brands I work with.
